[publication] Higher Education m-Learning and e-Learning Scenarios for a Geospatial Wiki

Our publication about „Higher Education m-Learning and e-Learning Scenarios for a Geospatial Wiki“ at this year E-Learn Conference is now online available. We are very proud to announce that we also won the Best Paper Award.
Abstract:

Several fields of higher education, like geology, architecture, or civil engineering, rely on visual information in the context of learning, a considerable part of it moreover location-based. Geotagging, a phenomenon recently spreading through he online and mobile world, offers innovative possibilities to support teachers and learners in such fields. One such approach is the composition of geotagged information with a collaborative environment – a so-called geowiki. A prototype for an educational geowiki, TUGeoWiki, has been developed at Graz University of Technology. This publications outlines possible application scenarios for TUGeoWiki in higher education, taking into account e-Learning as well as m-Learning scenarios.

[publication] First Experiences with OLPC in European Classrooms

Our publication about „First Experiences with OLPC in European Classrooms“ at this year E-Learn Conference is now online available.
Abstract:

The use of laptops in educational settings is discussed by lots of e-Learning researchers for years now. Since 2002 the One Laptop Per Child project (OLPC-project) tries to bring digital devices to developing countries avoiding the increase of the digital gap. Austria has been one of the first countries in the European Union (EU) to start an OLPC-project on its own. The focus was on the use of digital devices in education at a very early stage. Accompanied by a solid research team, bringing teachers, e-learning experts as well as software developer together, a first attempt was established. This publication aims to carry out the description of the prework, the first real life setting and concludes with the experiences of the whole research group. Furthermore it summarizes a recommendation for a transfer of the project to developing countries.

Die Aufzeichnung des Online-Podiums „Befragungen Studierender zum Thema E-Learning“ bei e-teaching.org ist nun online verfügbar.

In einer Po­diums­dis­­kussion stellten Dr. Mi­chael Gerth (Uni Leipzig), Dr. Mar­tin Eb­ner (TU Graz) und Dr. Matthias Rohs (Uni Zü­rich) die Ergebnis­se von Be­fra­gun­gen Studierender zum The­ma E-Lear­ning an ihren Universitäten vor.

Vielen Dank nochmals den OrganisatorInnen für die ausgezeichnete Veranstaltung.

Executive Commitee „Global Time“

Es freut mich außerordentlich, dass ich in das Executive Commitee der Online Konferenz „Global TIME: Global Conference on Technology, Innovation, Media & Education“ aufgenommen wurde die das nächste Mal von 19. – 20. Februar 2010 stattfinden wird.
Ich bin selbst auch sehr gespannt wie es ablaufen wird, aber definitiv ein Schritt in die Zukunft von Konferenzen. Hier sind die Topics gelistet.

Online-Podium bei e-teaching.org

Ich bin eingeladen worden am 26.10.2009 um 17.00 Uhr zusammen mit Mi­chael Gerth (Uni Leipzig) und Dr. Matthias Rohs (Uni Zü­rich) eingeladen rund um das Thema „Befragungen Studierender zum Thema E-Learning„. Ich werde dort ein wenig zu unseren Umfragen Stellung nehmen.

Inzwischen haben verschiedene Studien die Vorstellung widerlegt, dass die mit Computer und Internet aufgewachsenen heutigen Studierenden diese Technologien problemlos und sinnvoll auch im Studium nutzen können. Welche digitalen Kompetenzen haben die Studierenden wirklich – und welche benötigen sie? Wie beurteilen sie das Thema E-Learning?

E-Learning bei der Langen Nacht der Forschung

Lange Nacht der ForschungWir sind der heurigen Einladung gefolgt und werden auch aktiv am 7. November an der österreichweiten „Langen Nacht der Forschung“ teilnehmen. Hier findet man die Details wann wo wer sein wird.
Das Ziel ist einerseits zu zeigen was in Sachen e-Learning bereits umgesetzt wird und dann auch noch Einblick in die Forschung zu geben, Trends und zukünftige Entwicklungen aufzuzeigen.

E-Learning ist heute bereits mehr als nur ein Schlagwort und aus dem alltäglichen Lehr- und Lernbetrieb nicht mehr wegzudenken. Im Rahmen dieser Station wird sowohl der Stand der Technik (wie wird heute bereits Lehre mithilfe digitaler Technologien umgesetzt) als auch aktuelle Forschung gezeigt. Mit einem speziellen Augenmerk auf mobile Technologien können BesucherInnen selbst praktische Erfahrungen sammeln.

Wir freuen uns auf möglichst viele Besucher die interessiert sind wie Lehren und Lernen in Zukunft aussehen kann – auf viele Diskussionen und unterschiedliche Sichtweisen 🙂 .
