[publication] OER-Certification in Higher Education #OER #research #edmedia

At this year Ed-Media conference in Amsterdam we published our research work about „OER-Certification in Higher Education“.

Abstract:

Open Education Resources (OER) will play an important role in the future of higher education institutions at least in German-speaking countries. Due to the very strict copyright law OER seems to be the only possible solution in a long run. In this publication, we discuss the result of a nationwide special interest group (SIG) aiming to provide a nationwide strategy and solution for how higher education institutions can deal with this issue. A concept of OER certification will be presented, which is divided into two domains: The certification of the lecturers and the certification of the higher educations institutions themselves. In the end, the use of Open Badges is recommended as a certification method. The proposed concept can also be used by other institutions, independently of the education sector or the country.

[publication] German Language Training App for Primary School Children #LearningAnalytics #iderblog

At this year Ed-Media conference in Amsterdam we published our research work about „German Language Training App for Primary School Children“.

Abstract:

Mobile apps and the gaming industry experienced continuous growth and popularity over the last couple of years. While children have always played games for fun, researchers, recognized the promising possibilities behind games in the field of education. As nearly every child is in possession of a mobile device today, the sector of digital game-based learning is of special interest. Since primary school pupils often find it difficult to acquire good language skills, this research study deals with the creation of a prototype for tablets to support language training within primary schools. For the evaluation, a field test among children in Austria was conducted in order to see whether benefits could be observed. The extremely positive field test strengthened our approach and further motivated the participants to play the game even after the test was finished.

Unser Artikel über „Offene Bildungsressourcen (OER) in der Weiterbildung“ ist nun in der Zeitschrift Education Permanente erschienen. Wir haben dabei versucht einen Einblick in das Themenfeld mit einem speziellen Blick auf die Weiterbildung zu geben.
Zusammenfassung:

Mit Materialien zu arbeiten, die nicht von einem selbst stammen, ist auch in der Erwachsenenbildung üblich. Dabei gilt es aber einige Dinge zu beachten.

[presentation] OER an Hochschulen – Entwicklungen in Österreich #OER #Austria #OpenEducation

Open Educational Resources bzw. Open Education ist eines meiner großen Anliegen, da ich felsenfest davon überzeugt bin, dass man dadurch einerseits Bildung besser erreichbar machen kann und andererseits erst dann die Potentiale der Digitalisierung genutzt werden können. Daher versuchen wir das Thema national weiter zu verankern. Umso mehr freut es mich, dass man mich zur OER-KA Konferenz über „Freie Bildungsmaterialien in der Hochschullehre“ als Keynote-Speaker eingeladen hat um die österreichischen Entwicklungen aufzuzeigen. Open Acces Tage in Graz – wir sind dabei #OER #imoox #OEA

Wir freuen uns, dass wir heuer auch bei den Open-Access-Tagen in Graz mit unserem Lieblingsthema (OER) vertreten sein werden. Es wurde heuer auch als Schwerpunkt aufgenommen und da haben wir natürlich die Chance genutzt. Sowohl die OER-Stratgie, iMooX oder auch das Open Education Austria Projekt – zu erzählen haben wir ja viel. Noch mehr freuen würde uns, wenn viele vorbei schauen und mitdiskutieren 🙂

OER-Canvas got translated #OER

What a big honor for our work – the OER-Canvas which was originally developed by Sandra and me for a German and an Austrian project on OER got translated into different languages. Currently 18 languages are available steadily growing 🙂

A couple of weeks ago, the Open Education Working Group, decided to partner with OER info, to translate a beautiful Canvas to create OERs and OER project. To translate the Canvas we launched an Open Call via our twitter channels and we got a great response.

[conference] Freie Bildungsmaterialien in der Hochschullehre #OER #tugraz

Es freut mich, dass ich zu einer OER-Konferenz in Karlsruhe mit dem Titel „OER-KA: Freie Bildungsmaterialien in der Hochschullehre“ eingeladen worden bin. Ich möchte dort die letzten Entwicklungen aus Österreich überblicksmäßig darstellen, insbesondere die letzten Arbeiten auf nationalem Level vorstellen.

Ich freue mich auf viele TeilnehmerInnen und spannende Diskussionen 🙂 .

Es freut uns sehr, dass die TU Graz im Rahmen ihres Sommerangebotes heuer erstmals auch MakerDays für Kinder und Jugendliche anbieten kann. Vom 13.8 – 17.8.2018 wird folgendes unternommen:

In einer offenen (digitalen) Werkstatt können Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von 10-14 Jahren kreativ arbeiten und verschiedene Produkte mit unterschiedlichen (digitalen) Werkzeugen und Materialien gestalten und herstellen.

Folgende Stationen erwarten dich:

#textiles Gestalten #Programmieren und Physical Computing #Roboter steuern #Arbeiten mit dem 3D-Drucker und dem Vinyl-Schneider #Basteln, Bauen, Malen #elektronisches Basteln #Lernen mit neuen Medien #verschiedene Workshops #und noch vieles mehr

WICHTIG: Die Teilnahme für Jugendliche von 10-14 Jahren ist kostenlos (!), man braucht sich bitte nur hier anmelden. Wir freuen uns wirklich, neue Wege zu beschreiten und eine Woche lang in einer offenen (digitalen) Werkstatt arbeiten zu können.

[publication] It’s in your pocket: A MOOC about programming for kids and the role of OER in teaching and learning contexts #imoox #mooc #tugraz

Our publication about „It’s in your pocket: A MOOC about programming for kids and the role of OER in teaching and learning contexts“ at this year Open Education Global Conference in Delft got published right now.

Abstract:

Programming is considered as an essential skill in the 21st century. Visual programming languages and age-appropriate development environments allow an easy entry into this field. Nevertheless, it is very challenging to bring those skills in a very short time frame to schools, to their teachers, and to school children themselves. Therefore, Graz University of Technology started a Massive Open Online Course named “Learning to code: Programming with Pocket Code” which is intended to teach coding skills to school children as well as teachers in a very fast, flexible and effective way. The learning content within the course is published under an open license to allow the reuse, modification and dissemination of the materials in different teaching and learning contexts. In this research work, we will present structure and concept of the MOOC. A special emphasis will be given on how the MOOC can be used in school and on the fact, that the content can be disseminated in a variety of ways.
