[publication] Seven features of smart learning analytics – lessons learned from four years of research with learning analytics

Together with Behnam Taraghi, Anna Saranti and Sandra Schön we discussed and broad together what makes learning analytics smart – from our perspectives and experiences with some years of work (and several publications). Here your will find the whole publication or simply summarized as figure:

Abstract:

Learning Analytics (LA) is an emerging field; the analysis of a large amount of data helps us to gain deeper insights into the learning process. This contribution points out that pure analysis of data is not enough. Building on our own experiences from the field, seven features of smart learning analytics are described. From our point of view these features are aspects that should be considered while deploying LA.

[lecture] AK Technoloy Enhanced Learning – Einheit 3

In der dritten Einheit des Seminars „Ausgewählte Kapitel aus Technology Enhanced Learning“ beschäftigten wir uns mit dem Maker Movement. Neuer #iMooX Kurs – Gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Informationstechnologie #gadi15

Am 16.3 wird meine Lehrveranstaltung an der TU Graz rund um das Thema „Gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Informationstechnologie“ als MOOC gestartet – anmelden kann man sich aber ab sofort. Damit wird es die erste Pflichtlehrveranstaltung an einer österreichischen Universität sein, die so abgehalten wird. Das Ziel der Veranstaltung ist ein kritischer Diskurs zu den Auswirkungen von neuen digitalen Technologien auf die Gesellschaft und soviel kann ich schon verraten – die Expertinnen und Experten werden tolle Inhalte für eine Diskussion liefern.

Achtung: Die Anmeldung ist bereits hier möglich.

Der Kursinhalt:

Dieser Kurs beschäftigt sich mit den gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen der Informationstechnologie. Insbesondere geht es um die kontroverse Diskussion zwischen dem Für und Wider von Technologien. So stellt sich die Frage inwieweit Gesundheitsdaten von Patienten zentral gesammelt werden sollen (eHealth), da dies auch negative Auswirkungen haben kann oder warum GreenIT wichtig ist für die langfristige Ressourcenschonung. Dass das Urheberrecht mit der digitalen Welt nicht mehr mithalten kann ist ebenso Thema wie Big Data und seine Auswirkungen in der Medizin und Wirtschaft. Ist Open Science nur das Wunschdenken von Enthusiasten und braucht es in der Hochschule der Zukunft noch Hörsäle? Sind digitale Kompetenzen genauso wichtig, wie der Unterricht in Deutsch oder Mathematik bzw. ist unser Bildungssystem wirklich am Ende?
All diese Fragen und noch viel mehr werden Teil des Kurses sein, mit dem Ziel aufzuzeigen, dass sämtliche digitalen Innovationen auch einen Beigeschmack haben können, wenn die Gesellschaft zu wenig aufgeklärt ist bzw. nicht weiß wie sie sich verhalten/entscheiden soll.

[publication] Technology Enhanced Learning and the Digital Economy: A Literature Review

Our publication about „Technology Enhanced Learning and the Digital Economy: A Literature Review“ is now online published in the International Journal of Innovation in the Digital Economy (IJIDE).
Abstract:

Throughout history, the ongoing technological progress has caused the economy to change in many aspects; furthermore, at times it triggered the dawn of a new era. In the 1980s, this happened for the last time and the digital economy has emerged over the last decades. Since then, the significance of approaches to technology enhanced learning (TEL) has increased rapidly. However, the relations between the digital economy and technology enhanced learning are hardly investigated. Therefore this study points out the known relations between technology enhanced learning and the digital economy by reviewing 1089 publications. Thereby one could recognize that the relations between the regularities of the digital economy and the field of technology enhanced learning have not been thoroughly researched yet.

Im Rahmen einer Appentwicklung für Kinder zur Messung von Sportübungen hat sich diese Publikation ergeben „KINDGERECHTES PILATES ALS INTERVENTION ZUR HALTUNGS- STABILISIERUNG UND VERBESSERUNG VON WIRBELSÄULEN- FEHLHALTUNGEN BEI SCHÜLERINNEN IM ALTER VON 10-12 JAHREN“ beim 15. Kongress der Österreichischen Sportwissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft.
Zusammenfassung:

Wirbelsäulenbeschwerden zählen zu den häufigsten chronischen Krankheiten unserer Bevölkerung. Die Anzahl der Schulkinder mit beginnenden Haltungsschäden ist steigend (Latalski et al., 2013). Ziel der Studie ist, den Effekt eines regelmäßigen Pilatesprogramms zur Stabilisation und Korrektur der Haltung aufzuzeigen. Welche Effekte auf die Haltung entstehen u.a. in geschlechtsspezifischem Kontext?
