Abstract:
Individual learning is out of sync with the elements of a curricula and the daily program of a teacher. At a time when multidigit multiplication methods are taught, many children are not perfectly performing the basic multiplication table. Teachers organize settings for learning and they usually have no time to give an individual feedback to every single student. Furthermore they have no physiological capacity to produce statistics and to investigate the probable causes of errors. Our goal is to give teachers a tool to help them to review and train some typical requirements for written multiplying. We use the ubiquity of the Internet and provide on different devices free applications with written multiplication problems. All data are collected centrally and are used to determine typical errors. These data could also be used to answer further new questions and test new hypothesis. This is one aspect of Learning Analytics. The given tasks are automatically adapted to the skill level of a student. Teachers can see every detail of the solution process of every task. But really useful is that teachers can see the typical problems of each student as well as of the whole class every time at a glance. They need just a connection to the database with a web browser – anywhere, anytime.
Finally the first evaluation of the system pointed out some remarkable results. Children are learning with the system in the intended way according to the shown learning curves.

Als weiterführende Literatur wird das Lehrbuch für Lernen und Lehren mit Technologien empfohlen mit den entsprechenden Kapiteln (Kollaborative Werkzeuge, Mobile Learning), sowie das Kapitel “Web 2.0 als Basis für CSCL-Umgebungen“.
Zur Info für Nicht-Teilnehmer/innen: Es handelt sich um einen ganztägigen Workshop.
Im Rahmen des 6. Lehrmittelsymposiums bin ich gebeten worden über unsere E-Book-Aktivitäten zu referieren. Unter anderem werde ich auch die Machbarkeitsstudie vorstellen und zeigen welche interaktiven Möglichkeiten mit ePUB3 bereits möglich sind.

Our publication on “Utilizing new technologies for the improvement of problem based learning in the field of medical education” is now published in the book Active and Collaborative Learning: Practices, Problems and Prospects.
Abstract:
In times in which medical education seems to be more complex than ever, facing horrendous student numbers and an increasing accessibility of information, the question of how to ensure the most efficient learning experience remains a vivid point of discussion. Active Learning and its subconcept of Problem Based Learning represent a promising candidate for future improvements in the area of medical education. The utilization of the concept of Problem Based Learning, paired with the latest inventions in web and mobile technologies, finally provides the necessary media to build a possible solution, satisfying the needs of new age education. In this work we report the successful development of a novel reporting system, which focusses on the reliable and fast processing of patient case files during a student’s supervised period of compulsory hospital field work. This novel system enables an improved and fast way of supervisor/student interaction and communication.

Für das uni.webradio durfte ich ein Interview zum Projekt L3T 2.0 geben – kurz erklären was und wozu wir etwas gemacht haben. Was dabei herausgekommen ist, kann hier nachgehört werden.
Im neuen OCG-Journal (3/2013) ist ein kurzer Artikel von Sandra und mir zu der Problematik der Schulbücher von morgen. Wie immer versuchen wir es von vielen Seiten zu sehen und vielleicht ein komplexes Thema neu und anders zu denken. Was in der Zukunft passiert haben wir zwar nicht in der Hand, aber vielleicht gelingt es so Impulse zu geben.

Wer heute an ein Schulbuch denkt, hat ein farbig gedrucktes Buch mit zahlreichen Abbildungen vor Augen. Schon Schulanfänger haben manchmal so viele davon in der Schultasche, dass diese oft sehr schwer ist. Die Inhalte, ihre Reihenfolge und die Aufgabenstellungen der Schulbücher sind dabei in aller Regel maßgeblich für die alltägliche Unterrichtsgestaltung: Schulbücher sind damit auch der „geheime Lehrplan“ im Schulalltag.

Ab sofort ist auch die iPhone App für den PlusMinus-Trainer online verfügbar. Nach der Webapplikation und der Android-App kann der Trainer jetzt auch am iPhone verwendet werden:
Die App beinhaltet ein webbasiertes Trainingssystem für das du ein Konto benötigst. Dein Lernfortschritt wird online gespeichert, und du bekommst immer auf dich zugeschnittene Rechenaufgaben.
Weiters gibt es einen Übungsmodus der in unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsstufen anonym durchführbar ist, und dem Zwecke der Verbesserung der Rechenfähigkeiten des Benutzers dient.
