[presentation] Lernen in Zukunft

Im Rahmen der Vorlesung „Gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Informationstechnologie“ halte ich heute den Vortrag zu: e-Learning, m-Learning, p-Learning, u-Learning – wie lernen wir morgen?

Dabei habe ich erstmals auf das Präsentationstool prezi zurückgegriffen und meine Inhalte damit umgesetzt. Bin also schon gespannt wie es sich bewährt.

[announcement] Vorträge von Peter Purgathofer und Erik Duval

Im Rahmen unserer Lehrveranstaltung „Gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Informationstechnologie“ freut es uns sehr, dass wir am Mittwoch zwei sehr prominente Gastredner begrüßen dürfen:

  • Peter Purgathofer wird das Thema „Privatssphäre und Überwachung“ aufgreifen und
  • Erik Duval über „Snowflake Effect and e-Learning“ referieren.

Die Vorträge werden auch live ins Internet übertragen und können dort verfolgt werden.
Zeitpunkt ist Mittwoch, 13. Mai 2009 von 16.15 – 17.45 Uhr und die Streams sind unter https://curry.tugraz.at zu erreichen.

[publication] How People are Using Twitter during Conferences

Together with my colleagues we researched about how People are using Twitter during conferences. This publication was presented at this year EduMedia conference.
Abstract:

The popularity of microblogging, with special emphasis on twitter, the most famous application of the kind, is growing rapidly. This kind of tools for micro-exchange of information and communication is changing the daily life of knowledgeable worker as well as
Internet savvy people. From this perspective this paper aims to show how Twitter can be used during conferences, and furthermore how different people are using it. With the help of a survey and analysis of the collected data, benefits regarding the use of a microblogging tool
such as Twitter can be presented. The publication shows evidence on how Twitter can enhance the knowledge of a given group or community by miStatistical data was also used to support this research.

Rückschau EduMedia 2009

Bin also wieder zuhause von der Reise nach Salzburg – mittlerweile ist es ja fast Tradition daran teilzunehmen. Neben meinem Vortrag gab es natürlich auch weitere Höhepunkte.
Neben der sehr spannenden Keynote von Peter Gloor mit seinem netten Analysetool COIN, dem Powerpoint Karaoke am Abend, traf ich natürlich viele Twitter-Kollegen (@MAMK, @e_trude, @digiom, @estudykills, …). Und es ist doch immer wieder schön nach langer Online Phase sich wieder einmal face-to-face auszutauschen.
Danke auch an Mark der einige Momente festhielt (man beachte das T-Shirt, welches ich überreicht bekam – danke, danke, danke):

New Education Wave (N-Ed Wave)?

After my talk at the Online Round Table about „EduPunk„ a really interesting debate started online. Fascinating how many people agreed and some other disagreed. I am quite happy with such a situation due to the fact the scientific discussions help to improve future education.
However I would like to list all the statements on the Web:

  • Stephen mentioned „Martin is seeking to open up the VLE and apply the ideas of edupunk in an institutional context [and not as] as subversive or a challenge to the establishment but rather as a way of enhancing the teaching and learning environment,“ I want to call it N-Ed Wave or some such thing. [Link]
  • Graham disagreed „I am not convinced about the movement from punk to New Wave. But as I said in my original article, we need to establish edupunk as having a meaning in its own right. The music analogy is getting stretched and has limited further purchase.“ [Link]
  • Frances pointed out „Having checked out these and previous responses on Edupunk, I realise that I have missed a dimension that Chris Sessums captures in his response to a blog post on a previous Edupunk sessions“[Link]
  • And of course also Steve shares his opinion „No, Edupunk promises to do for education what Punk did for music. Punk gave the British music industry a much need shot in the arm and saved it from stagnation. I also said that sometimes you need to be destructive in order to be creative“ [Link]
  • Gemma summarized my ideas as „While Ebner isn’t as revolutionary as he tries to find a way to open VLE to free contents and tools.“ [Link]

I like to thank again for discussing this important topic and I am sure that we are all on the right way to enhance our education. If anyone likes to more know about all the stuff we are doing right now there is also a publication online available.

1. österreichisches EduCamp an der TU Graz

Es freut mich, dass ich es nun ganz offiziell ankündigen kann: Das erste österreichische (und gleichzeitig vierte deutschsprachige) EduCamp wird an der TU Graz stattfinden.
Die Initiative iUNIG hat sich entschlossen das Event am 6. und 7. November 2009 zu veranstalten und allen Bildungsinteressierten eine Möglichkeit des Austausches zu bieten. Zusammen mit unseren deutschen Kollegen werden wir im Anschluss an das am Wochenende in Illmenau stattfindene EduCamp alle Vorbereitungen treffen.
Als Titel wurde „Lernende von morgen – Informationsjunkies?“ gewählt, um den derzeitigen Medienwandel im Bildungsbereich zu thematisieren:

Digital native, totally wired, lifestreaming, information overload, mobile society sind Stichwörter, die immer mehr an Bedeutung gewinnen und deren Auswirkungen auf den Bildungsbereich bereits heute in Ansätzen sichtbar werden. Diskutierte man vor Jahren noch über online Lehren und Lernen an Hochschulen, Schulen und in der Weiterbildung, so scheint dieses Thema in der Debatte über Web 2.0 Anwendungen unwichtig zu sein. Doch was passiert, wenn die Jugend von heute, aufgewachsen in virtuellen Netzwerken, ausgestattet mit hochleistungsfähigen Endgeräten und breitem Wissen über Webanwendungen und Programmiertechnologie, Schule und Universitäten bevölkert?
