[umfrage] EduCamp 2009 in Graz oder Graz/Hamburg

Wir hier in Graz werden nächstes Jahr ein EduCamp veranstalten und freuen uns natürlich riesig offenen Meinungsaustausch rund um das Thema „technologieunterstütztes Lernen“ zu betreiben.
Hamburg wäre interessiert eventuell parallel auch ein EduCamp auszutragen mit dem Hintergedanken, dass wir die Zielgruppe nochmals erweitern und auch noch mehr Sessions anbieten können. Aber entscheiden sollten nicht wir, sondern ihr, die Besucher 🙂 .
Ich will mich nicht wirklich wiederholen, daher übernehme ich gleich den Text von Ralf:

Wie dem Beitrag “EduCamp Nord-Süd-Gipfel?” im EduCamp Blog zu entnehmen ist gibt es Überlegungen das EduCamp vom 06. bis 07. November 2009 nicht nur in Graz, sondern evtl. additiv auch in Hamburg anzubieten. Hierbei wären Verknüpfungen von Sessions mit Live-Schaltung o.ä. vorgesehen.
Insgesamt macht dies jedoch nur Sinn, wenn sich die beiden Veranstaltungen nicht gegenseitig Konkurrenz machen würden, insbesondere was die Teilnehmerzahlen angeht. Es lässt sich aber schwer einschätzen welche Reisestrecken die potenziellen Teilnehmer auf sich nehmen würden bzw. ob auf Grund der großen Distanz zwischen den Veranstaltungsorten für beide Camps ausreichend Teilnehmer zusammenkommen würden. Deshalb gibt es eine kleine Umfrage. Die Umfrage findet bis Mitte Januar parallel an verschiedenen Orten/Blogs statt, die Ergebnisse fliessen aber alle zusammen.

Im Rahmen der USAB 2008 mit dem Thema „HCI & Usability for Education and Work“ haben wir einen Beitrag zu „Usability metrics of time and stress – Biological enhanced performance test of a university wide learning management system“ erstellt.
Abstract:

This paper describes the modification and outcome of a performance test applied to a university wide learning management system under realistic conditions to identify usability problems and to compare measures such as success rate, task time and user satisfaction with requirements. Two user groups with 20 test users each took part in this study. During the whole test psychophysiological parameters of the test persons were monitored and recorded, in order to find event related stress symptoms. Modifications of the original test allowed a faster analysis of relevant quantitative metrics and the collection of qualitative information.

[publication] Can Microblogs and Weblogs change traditional scientific writing?

Die Verwendung von Microblogs und Weblogs in unserer Lehrveranstaltung und die Evaluation haben wir im Rahmen dieser Publikation auf der heurigen E-Learn Conference.
Abstract:

This paper describes a follow-up Web 2.0 approach to a technology enhanced master course for students of Graz University of Technology. The lecture “Social Aspects of Information Technology” has a long tradition for using new didactical scenarios as well as modern e-Learning technologies. After using a blogosphere one year ago, this year microblog channels helped to expand the traditional lecture. Students choose (on a voluntary basis) whether they want to participate in a blogging/microblogging group instead of using conventional methods called Scientific Writer/Scientific Reviewer. This study addresses the question whether this method can change the learning outcome into a more reflective one. Furthermore, peer-reviewing groups judge the quality of essays and blog contributions. In this paper we examine if microblogging can be an appropriate technology for assisting the process.
This publication comes to the conclusion that an amazing potential and a new way to work with information is opened when using microblogging. Students seem to be more engaged, reflective and critical in as much as they presented much more personal statements and opinions than years before.

[publication] Mobile Information Access in Higher Education

Unser Beitrag bei der heurigen E-Learn Conference über den mobilen Zugang zum Lernmanagesystem ist nun hier online verfügbar.
Abstract:

This paper describes the implementation and integration of a m-Learning interface into the existing University-wide e-Learning System. Thereby existing content and information from the e-learning environment is automatically styled and provided in a way, which is accessible for most mobile devices. Incompatible content is filtered out. The system has been developed at the Institute of Information Systems and Computer Media (IICM) of Graz University of Technology with a special focus on the needs of engineering students. The approach integrates the possibilities of current mobile and wireless computing technology with the efficient delivery of information, content and interaction.
This paper will describe the system as well as encourage discussion, although far from m-Learning scenarios – how this kind of mobile access to information and content can be used to support students in higher education.

[publication] Security Privacy Challenges in E-Learning 2.0

Zusammen mit Edgar Weippl von der TU Wien habe ich einen Beitrag über Security und E-Learning 2.0 für die heurige E-Learn Conference erstellt.
Abstract:

E-Learning 2.0 uses Web 2.0 tools for e-learning. New services on the Internet can be
swiftly integrated into existing applications; students can create MashUps, for instance, using a
variety of services on the Internet. The main risk comes from the fact that students and teachers are
not entirely aware that their institution does not control these services. The servers are located in a
variety of countries, thus privacy laws also differ. In addition, as most Web applications are built as
three-tier architectures, typical security weaknesses exist, such as invalid input, a lack of server-
side checks, and excessive privileges

[publication] QR Code – The Business Card of Tomorrow?

Im Rahmen des FH Science Day habe ich einen Artikel rund um die Verwendung von QR Codes veröffentlicht.
Abstract:

We are getting familiar with mobile devices; they begin to pervade our daily life in a way that we won’t notice them anymore as something remarkable. The amazing fact that there are more registered mobile phones than inhabitants in Germany and Austria makes it easy to claim that mobile phones have already reached the state of a ubiquitous device. One often unsatisfying user experience in dealing with the mobile device addresses the entry of data. Instead of typing data key-by-key one of the most promising technologies towards mobile technologies are Barcodes. 2D Barcodes or “mobile tags” can be used to exchange information very easily and quickly. By scanning a data matrix access to additional materials can be simply provided. Such codes are able to combine and connect two different media: Print and Internet.
Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) has been started about half a year ago a master thesis and research work with the aim to gather experiences about the practicability of two-dimensional barcodes in general as well as for teaching purposes. By using QR-Codes (Quick Response-Codes) it should be pointed out how and why mobile tagging becomes valuable for the society. This paper gives an overview about the use QR Codes and discusses methods and possibilities.
It can be summarized that by using two-dimensional barcodes the print and online media will get closer and enhance our mobile lives.
