Die TU Graz bietet ab sofort allen Angehörigen (Lehrenden und Studierenden) die Möglichkeit der freien Nutzung des Online Mindmapping Tools MindMeister an:
MindMeister ist eine Internet Anwendung zum collaborativem Erstellen von Mindmaps nach der Methode des Brainstormings. Mind Mapping ist eine populäre Technik zur Ideensammlung, Projektplanung und Innovationsförderung.
Der Funktionsumfang, die Registrierung und sonstige Hilfe kann hier nachgelesen werden. Auch eine iPhone Applikation steht zur Verfügung. Wir wünschen viel Spaß mit dem Tool und hoffen dass es auch zahlreich genutzt wird.

Im Rahmen des 7. Online Web Montags hatte ich die Gelegenheit über die Verwendung von Microblogging an der Hochschule zu reden und unsere Untersuchungen kurz darzustellen, wie auch Projektkompetenz.eu berichtet. Die Aufzeichnung ist nun auch verfügbar und ich freu mich auf Rückmeldungen.
Einladung zum Webmontag
Ich bin gefragt worden, ob ich nächste Woche am Online-Webmontag einen Beitrag zum Spezialthema „Bildung und Social Media“ halten möchte und habe dem gerne zugestimmt. Ich werde dabei über Erfahrungen des Einsatzes von Microblogging an einer österreichischen Hochschule berichten, wie es sich in der alltäglichen Praxis bewährt hat (oder auch nicht) und wo ich Stärken und Schwächen sehe.
Als Grundlage wird mir die Veröffentlichung „Microblogs in Higher Education – a chance to facilitate informal and process oriented learning?“ dienen, woraus ich einige Tabellen und Grafiken vorstelle.
Möchte also alle die daran interessiert sind herzlich einladen an dieser Online Diskussion teilzunehmen.

We are happy to announce that our publication „Microblogs in Higher Education – a chance to facilitate informal and process oriented learning?“ published in Journal Computer & Education is now online available.
Abstract:
Microblogging is one of the latest Web 2.0 technologies. The key elements are online communication using 140 characters and the fact that it involves “following” anyone. There has been a great deal of excitement about this in recent months. This paper reports on a research study that was carried out on the use of a microblogging platform for process-oriented learning in Higher Education. Students of the University of Applied Sciences of Upper Austria used the tool throughout their course. All postings were carefully tracked, examined and analyzed in order to explore the possibilities offered by microblogging in education. It can be concluded that microblogging should be seen as a completely new form of communication that can support informal learning beyond classrooms.

Seit heute ist auch die TU Graz in iTunes U vertreten – es werden hier Inhalte aus der Lehre, Forschung oder einfach rund um die TU Graz präsentiert.
Weiters haben wir versucht auch rundherum einiges anzubieten – es gibt also:

Online Lexikon Österreich
Letzte Woche ist das Austria-Forum für die Öffentlichkeit freigeschalten worden und versteht sich als umfassendes Online Lexikon rund um das Land Österreich. Es freut mich natürlich sehr, dass mein Dissertationsvater Prof. Hermann Maurer mit viel Engagement dieses Projekt vorantreibt, um uns eine enorme Fülle an Informationen zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Das Austria-Forum ist eine von unabhängigen Wissenschaftern und Publizisten gestaltete und der Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung gestellte Wissens- und Diskussionsplattform mit Schwerpunkt Österreich. Inhaltlich orientiert sich das Austria-Forum am Gedanken des Universal-Lexikons und der Mitgestaltung durch volksbildnerisch engagierte Benutzer.

[publication] Personal Learning Environments for Higher Education: A Mashup Based Widget Concept
Our paper about “Personal Learning Environment for Higher Education – A MashUp Based Widget Concept” within the MUPPLE 09 Workshop at this year ECTEL conference is now online available (presentation).
Abstract:
Due to the enormous growth of distributed applications, services, tools and resources, it is not easy for end users to come across existing services, manage and use them in a matter which is customized according to their personal needs. Mashups can be a very interesting approach to overcome challenges of distributed (unknown) services. Using mashups in a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) can help to connect resources and applications in one environment customized to the needs of individual users. In this paper a first approach and the concept of a PLE especially for higher education is described. The technological concept is introduced and design issues are pointed out as well as the first prototype is described.
