We did a contribution titled „Individualized Differentiated Spelling with Blogs – Implementing and Individualizing (IDeRBlog ii)“ for this year HCII conference.

Abstract:
The paper depicts the Erasmus+ project “Individual DifferEntiated correct writing with Blogs – Individualizing and Implementing (IDeRBlog ii)”. IDeRBlog ii is a follow-up project evolving the result of IDeRBlog, a blogging platform for pupils aged eight and above. The project is an international cooperation between 3 countries in Europe. This paper presents an overview of possibilities in context of individualization of the exercises. Further, it covers the benefits of using the platform, e.g. learning about media competences, how to communicate online and the possibility to get individualized exercises for supported during their writing process by the feedback of the intelligent dictionary.

„DIGITAL first“ ist das Motto der TU Graz für das Winteremester #covid19 #tugraz

Zurück aus dem Urlaub widmen wir uns nun dem Wintersemester an der TU Graz. Unter Auflage aller hygienischen Bedingungen und auch in Anbetracht möglicher Stadien die wir regional zu beachten haben, wollen wir aber soviel Präsenzlehre zulassen wie möglich ist. Insbesondere wollen wir es dort ermöglichen wo diese dringend notwendig ist – im Bereich der Labore, bei besonderen diskursiven Einheiten oder auch im Bereich von Lehrveranstaltungen für Erstsemstrige um den Einstieg an der Universität gut zu meistern. Unser Motto lautet daher „digital first“ mit der Botschaft, dass wir dort wo digitale Technologien sinnvoll verwendet werden können, es umgesetzt wird. In weiterer Folge hoffen wir, dass dann Räume frei werden um Präsenlehre, wo nötig, zu erlauben.

Informatik-Fit-MOOCEs freut uns, dass wir einen weiteren MOOC ankündigen können und zwar „Informatik-FIT„. Der Kursinhalt ist folgendermaßen definert:

Ziel des Kurses ist es, den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern ein umfassendes Bild der Informatik zugänglich zu machen und ein grundlegendes Verständnis für Prozesse und Vorgänge in der Informatik bzw. der Programmierung zu vermitteln. Es soll gezeigt werden, dass Informatik Spaß macht, stark mit Kreativität verbunden ist und spannende Fragen bereithält.

Weiters darf ich mich damit in den Urlaub – die Sommerpause – des Blogs verabschieden. Diese wird heuer etwas länger dauern, denn zunächst führen wir noch eine Woche lang die MakerDays for Kids durch, aber danach ziehe ich mich in die Kreise meiner Familie zurück. Nach einem unglaublich anstrengenden – CoVid-bedingt – Semester werde ich versuchen mich zu erholen, denn das WS 2020/21 wird wohl wieder herausfordernd. In diesem Sinne noch einen schönen Restsommer, ab 7.9.2020 bin ich und damit auch der Blog wieder zurück in altem Glanze 🙂 .

[publication] Practitioner Integration in Computational Thinking Education #edil20 #CT #tugraz

At this year EDMedia conference (online) we did a publication about „Practitioner Integration in Computational Thinking Education“.

Abstract:
This pilot study implemented an expert driven participatory workshop in a rural Austrian economic school. An action research approach was utilised to introduce the problem solving method named computational thinking (CT) to students aged 16 to 18 (K-12) in five after school workshop sessions. This research revealed the basic benefits of industry expert integration in a classroom setting with the aim to develop sustainable interdisciplinary interfaces that allow schools and individual teachers to independently showcase possible pathways. Drawbacks of the methods were identified, for example the high overhead efforts currently required without interfaces between practitioners and educators in place or the demanding time requirements. To create a strong, inclusive path to CT education for all young minds, these challenges need to be addressed and ultimately overcome with the support of all involved stakeholders.
