Invitation to join „EduPunk“-Publication list

Peter and I have decided because of our similar research work to establish a publication list of what we have read.
We choose the application CiteULike and created a group called „EduPunk„. Our aim is to collect and share publications concerning the topic e-Learning or Technology Enhanced Learning. The name EduPunk has been chosen because we have no specific goal – simply sharing our research about interesting and relevant literature on the web.
Now we would like to invite all researchers who are also interested to join this group to create an account and become a member (please write a short blog comment after your membership request).

Knol – Knowledgbase of Google

Google hat nun Knol, ihre schon länger angekündigte Wissensdatenbank, freigeschalten. Die Idee ist sehr ähnlich der von Wikipedia, also die Community schreibt und wir lesen dann alle guten Artikeln. Der augenscheinlichste und offensichtlichste Unterschied ist, dass eine anonyme Beteiligung nicht vorgesehen ist und dass Artikeln primär alleine geschrieben werden. Daher ergibt sich dann auch die durchaus gewollte Situation von „Doppelgleisigkeiten“:

What if someone else has already written an article on that subject?
No problem, you can still write your own article. In fact, the Knol project is a forum for encouraging individual voices and perspectives on topics. As mentioned, no one else can edit your knol (unless you permit it) or mandate how you write about a topic. If you do a search on a topic, you may very well see more than one knol in the search results. Of course, people are free to disagree with you, to write their own knols, to post comments and ratings

Das ganze riecht also ein wenig nach einer Vermischung zwischen Wikipedia und den Bloggern – also einmal sehen wie es sich entwickelt.
Anbei einmal ein Screenshot von der Oberfläche bei der Erstellung eines Beitrags (Knol) – ob ich dann tatsächlich einen Beitrag dazu leiste, wird wohl eine Frage der Zeit sein 😉 :

The Perodic Table of Videos

An der University of Nottingham/School of Chemistry hat man ein sehr schönes Projekt erstellt: Das Periodensystem mit Videos hinterlegt, d.h. man kann sich zu jedem chemischen Element einen Versuch und eine Kurzbeschreibung ansehen:

Tables charting the chemical elements have been around since the 19th century – but this modern version has a short video about each one.

[video] Vision of Education in 2020

Dank Werner bin ich auf ein Video von Karl Fisch (Director of Technology for Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado) gestoßen.
Ich gebe Werner absolut recht, dass es viel zu Google lastig ist – wer weiß welche Firmen in Zukunft sich entwickeln werden. Man hätte sehr berühmt werden können, wenn man anno 1998 den Erfolgslauf von Google vorausgesehn hätte (und das ist erst 10 Jahre her).
Also ansehen, kritisch hinterfragen und ich bin überzeugt da geht noch mehr :-):

FriendFeed, Lifestream, Tumblr

Ich habe in den letzten Wochen begonnen, mich auch mit Livestreams auseinanderzusetzen. Die Idee ist eigentlich simpel – die digitalen Spuren die man so macht, werden gebündelt und unter einer Applikation zusammengefasst. Man könnte es also auch als eine Art „Liveaggregator“ ansehen.
Die Notwendigkeit hierfür ist schnell ersichtlich, denn man sammelt seine Bookmarks bei Tool A, microbloggt mit Tool B und spielt seine Bilder auf Tool C usw. Dass man da fast selbst die Übersicht verliert ist kaum zu vermeiden – daher schreit der Markt eigentlich schon lange danach.
Ausprobiert habe ich folgendes:

  • Tumblr: Diese Applikation besticht am meisten durch die große Gestaltungsmöglichkeit. Leider ist der Import von RSS-Feeds auf 5 beschränkt, wodurch der Handlungsspielraum sehr gering bleibt. Bestechend aber ist das ausgereifte Bookmarklet, mit dem man sehr einfach Videos und Zitate von Webseiten einbinden kann
  • Friendfeed: Ist ein wirklicher Aggregator und kann zahlreiche andere Applikationen durch Angabe des Benutzernamen einbinden. Auch die Bildung von thematischen Gruppen ist möglich. Leider fehlt ein Widget für die Blogeinbindung und man muss sich hier über fünf Hausecken weiterhelfen.
  • Lifestream.fm: Eigentlich stellt dieses Tool das deutsprachige Pendant zu Friendfeed dar, besticht aber durch ein schön grafische Aufbereitung, eine höhere Anzahl an möglichen Imports und einen konfigurierbaren Widget. Nachteil ist, dass sich die Anwendung noch in einem „closed-beta“ Stadium befindet und man daher erschwert zu einem Account kommt.

Fazit aus meiner Sicht ist, dass ich Lifestream bereits rechts in meiner Sidebar eingebunden habe und es für mich gegenüber Friendfeed aufgrund der liebevollen Details die Nase vorne hat. Obwohl man eingestehen muss, dass Friendfeed eine atemberaubende Geschwindigkeit beim Import aufweist (also man wirklich von live reden kann). Tumblr werde ich auch weiterverwenden, da ich das einfache Ausschneiden von Zitaten und das Einbetten von Videos sehr schätzen gelernt habe.

Now our last publication at ED-Media 2008 Conference „The ABC-eBook System: From Content Management Application to Mash-up Landscape“ is online available.
Abstract:

This paper presents a complete new application for creating content for teaching and learning purposes at universities in the meaning of eLearning2.0, the ABC-Manager. The paper focuses on the advantages of the tool as well as its didactical background in comparison to other common CMSs. The current use of the ABC-Manager as an integrated part of the e-Learning strategy of Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) especially in the face of its online version (eBook of the TU Graz TeachCenter) is discussed. Furthermore an adequate scenario for the use of the ABC-eBook System embedded in a mashup environment following the principles of Web2.0 is recommended.

[publication] A Stylistic Analysis of Graphic Emoticons: Can they be Candidates for a Universal Visual Language of the Future?

The publication “A Stylistic Analysis of Graphic Emoticons: Can they be Candidates for a Universal Visual Language of the Future?” for ED-Media Conference 2008 is online available.
Abstract:

This paper, describing the current popularity of graphic emoticon usage in Japanese social network services, blogs and mobile phone communication, illustrates that these graphic emoticons are now evolving into ideographic images as substitutes for words or phrases from accessory markers showing the emotional state of the writer. It will be argued that the behavior of these graphic emoticons will give us valuable insights for implementing a universal auxiliary visual language that will overcome the barrier of language differences. Possible educationproposed.
