Im Rahmen meines Seminars zu „Technology Enhanced Learning“ an der TU Graz erarbeiten die Studierenden im Rahmen der Übungen immer ein Lernvideo. Es ist sowohl das Thema als auch die Machart freigestellt, die Vorgabe ist lediglich ein kurzer Clip mit dem etwas gelernt werden kann.

One of our intellectual outputs of the STELA-project is a case study amongt our partners. We did a study about how students feel in the very first beginning of their study and published it at the SEFI-conference.
Abstract:
This paper explores the confidence freshman engineering students have in being successful in the first study year and which study-related behaviour they believe to be important to this end. Additionally, this paper studies which feedback these students would like to receive and compares it with the experiences of second-year students regarding feedback. To this end, two questionnaires were administered: one with freshman engineering students to measure their expectations regarding study success and expected feedback and one with second-year engineering students to evaluate their first year feedback experience.
The results show that starting first-year engineering students are confident regarding their study success. This confidence is however higher than the observed first-year students success. Not surprisingly, first-year students have good intentions and believe that most academic activities are important for student success. When second-year students look back on their first year, their beliefs in the importance of these activities have strongly decreased, especially regarding the importance of preparing classes and following communication through email and the virtual learning environment. First-year students expect feedback regarding their academic performance and engagement. They expect that this feedback primarily focuses on the impact on their future study pathway rather than on comparison to peer students. Second-year students indicate that the amount of feedback they receive could be improved, but agree with the first-year students that comparative feedback is less important.

Ich wurde eingeladen am Bildungskonzil in Heldenberg 2017 teilzunehmen und durft dort zwei Tage lang den Denkraum Wirtschaft in der Kurie Neue Medien leiten. Wir machten uns dabei Gedanken wie wir einen Beitrag zum Thema „Bildung kann Frieden sichern“ leisten konnten. Zusammenfassend waren es sehr spannende Tage, mit viel Diskussion und Austausch und am Ende einem Ergebnis welches sich durchaus sehen lassen kann.

Fast schon traditionell darf ich wieder zu meiner Lehrverantstaltung, die gleichzeitig als MOOC auf iMooX angeboten wird, einladen. Das Thema ist wie immer „Gesellschaftliche Aspekte der Informationstechnologie“ und es ist uns gelungen wieder weitere ExpertInnen vor die Kamera zu bekommen um ihre Einblicke in die digitalisierte Welt von morgen zu schildern.

Bettina Höllerbauer hat den MOOC „Learning to Code: Programmieren mit Pocket Code“ als Grundlage genommen und damit einen innovativen Schulunterricht konzipiert. Dabei hat sie auch ein offenes Unterrichtssetting erstellt und erfolgreich umgesetzt. Die Unterrichtsmaterialien stehen dabei wiederum als Moodle-Kurs zum freien Download zur Verfügung. Schön zu sehen wie aus einem OER-Kurs ein weiterer OER-Kurs entstand 🙂

Paul developed within his master thesis mobile applications for the Austria Forum. We summarized this work in a chapter about „Mobile Applications for Encyclopedias“ within the book „Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning. Perspectives on Rethinking and Reforming Education“.
Abstract:
In this research work a survey of tested mobile applications will be summarized, which were selected by a few defined prerequisites, and a brief overview is given of what is available in the corresponding stores. It will also be shown how the individual mobile applications for encyclopedias are presenting and providing information to users. This cover its visual representation and the manner in how information is retrieved. Additionally a new smart way will be introduced in which we can deal with information with a special focus to encyclopedias and mobile devices. The prototyped application carries out special features, which makes usage of mobile devices capabilities. The presented approach follows a slightly more aggressive way on how to bring information to users. For example it requires the permission of user and tells him/ her actively that there is an interesting piece of information close by his/ her location. Communication between the device and users is done using the notification system. To satisfy the needs of users a set of options will be presented so that they can customize time and number of notifications. Those settings shall also prevent the battery from draining to fast and give the user control about it. The outcome is a a prototype with a set of features which allows users to retrieve information based on their mood and their willingness of spending effort. If he/ she is eager to learn the application provides ways to support that. If he/ she just want some quick information there are ways to get it. And if he/ she wants a new way of information retrieval via mobile applications for encyclopedias the prototype offers the above mentioned possibility to do so
