[publication] A Blog Sphere for Higher Education

The publication “A Blog Sphere for Higher Education” for ED-Media Conference 2008 is online available.
Abstract:

Blogs are an important part of the rapidly developing Web 2.0 phenomenon that revolutionizes the current World Wide Web. It thus makes sense for universities to investigate whether blogs can support teaching and learning. Our paper describes the installation and deployment of a blog sphere for Graz University of Technology based on the open source software ELGG and extended by us with new features that are essential for teaching and learning. This paper summarizes the first experiences that have been made within one year since launching our TU Graz LearnLand. We describe how the use of weblogs for teaching and learning purposes will need not only further extension but also a new approach to the teaching process.

[tool] mEgo – der digitale Mensch von morgen?

Wie sieht ein digitales Leben aus? Was kann man damit machen? Wie sehen uns andere? – Ein paar dieser Fragen wird durch ein neues Tool vielleicht vorstellbar: mEgo.
Aber wozu soll ich dazu viel sagen, es gibt ein YouTube-Video, welches einiges erklärt:

Bin natürlich neugierig geworden, sprich Account angelegt und mich durchgeklickt. Das Ergebnis ist das hier: LaBomba 🙂


Nun wie sich die Idee durchsetzen wird, ist schwer einschätzbar. Hängt einerseits technisch momentan wohl sehr am iPhone (mit meinem Nokia N95 ist es aufgrund fehlenden Flash-Players nicht anzeigbar) und andererseits an der mir nachfolgenden Generationen. Denn eines ist sicher, erst der vollkommen digitale und gläserne Mensch macht die Anwendung letztendlich sinnvoll. Aber hier tun sich für mich nun viele unbeantwortete Fragen auf, die nicht von der Hand zu weisen sind und die Forderung nach einer ernsthaften Medienerziehung kann nicht oft genug betont werden.

[publication] Podcasting at TU Graz

Die Publikation „Podcasting at TU Graz: How to Implement Podcasting as a Didactical Method for Teaching and Learning Purposes at a University of Technology“ auf der ED-Media Konferenz 2008 ist nun online verfügbar.
Abstract:

In this paper a way is reflected how the didactical power of podcasting is used for teaching and learning purposes at “Graz University of Technology” (TU Graz) since more than
one year. The variety of different didactical scenarios that are in practice is presented and argued as well as the workflow behind. Advantages and disadvantages of software, hardware and methods that are worked with are discussed. Examples and first evaluations give an overview of how far podcasting is welcomed by teachers and students and tops the paper off.

EduPunk – Teil II

Auf meiner Rechereche über EduPunk bin ich auf diesen brandneuen Artikel des eLearn Magazin gestoßen: „Edupunk“ Rocks the (Virtual) House.
Hier wird auch auf den Blogpost von Stephen Downes hingewiesen, welche EduPunk durch folgende 3 Punkte charakterisiert:

  1. On the one hand, it’s a reaction against the commercialization of learning …
  2. On the other hand, it has come to symbolize the do-it-yourself aspect of educational technology …
  3. The third ingredient in edupunk … is thinking for yourself instead of being told what to think and learning for yourself instead of being told what to learn …

Man kann es also so sehen, dass Lehren und Lernen technologisch begleitet wird, aber dies mehr oder weniger „quick and dirty“, an die Situation angepasst und wie es gerade gebraucht wird. Es geht also nicht darum welche tollen Systeme man verwendet, sondern schlicht und einfach ein pädagogisches Problem zu lösen.
Das ganze ist mir zwar sehr sympathisch, man sollte nur bedenken, dass natürlich die Medienkompetenz und die Infrastruktur vorhanden sein muss – also für ITFreaks ist EduPunk wohl schon lange Alltag.
Aber die Bewegung ist insofern auch beachtenswert, da einer Sache immer mehr Bedeutung zukommt: MashUps. Inhalte werden beliebig in einer für den Lernen geeigneten Form zusammengebracht und aufbereitet. Dass DAS große Zukunft hat, da bin ich mir ziemlich sicher.

EDUPUNK

Seit einiger Zeit geistert ein neues Wort durch die e-Learning Blogosphere: EduPunk.
Nun habe ich begonnen mich ein wenig einzulesen und allem nachzugehen. Auf Wikipedia gibt es bereits eine Definition:

Edupunk is an approach to teaching and learning practices that result from a do it yourself (DIY) attitude.[1] Many instructional applications can be described as DIY education or Edupunk. It describes inventive teaching and inventive learning.The term was first used on May 25, 2008 by Jim Groom in his blog …
