[publication] Learning Analytics in Higher Education – A Literature Review #research #tugraz

Our chapter on „Learning Analytics in Higher Education – A Literature Review“ got published in the book Learning Analytics: Fundaments, Applications, and Trends.

Abstract:

This chapter looks into examining research studies of the last five years and presents the state of the art of Learning Analytics (LA) in the Higher Education (HE) arena. Therefore, we used mixed-method analysis and searched through three popular libraries, including the Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK) conference, the SpringerLink, and the Web of Science (WOS) databases. We deeply examined a total of 101 papers during our study. Thereby, we are able to present an overview of the different techniques used by the studies and their associated projects. To gain insights into the trend direction of the different projects, we clustered the publications into their stakeholders. Finally, we tackled the limitations of those studies and discussed the most promising future lines and challenges. We believe the results of this review may assist universities to launch their own LA projects or improve existing ones.

OER auf dem Nachtcamp der dhgd Tagung (9.3.17) #oer

Ja, für OER sind Sandra Schön und ich gerne zu haben. Wenn es sein muss und Christian Spannagel, Timo van Treeck und Lutz Berger so nett anfragen, natürlich auch Nachts. Die drei organisieren nämlich im Rahmen der dhgd Tagung 2017 ein Nachtcamp (9.3.17). Und Sandra und ich sind quasi die Mitternachtseinlage (es geht aber noch länger!). Ein Live-Stream ist angekündigt – und wird sicher via Twitter & Co zeitnah geteilt werden. Bis dann!

[poster] Rechtschreiblernen durch Learning Anlaytics #IDERblog #research

Im Rahmen des Symposiums Deutschdidaktik durften wir unser Projekt IDERblog im Rahmen eines Posters vorstellen und diskutieren.
Abstract:

Ziel ist die Bereitstellung einer Internetplattform für Kinder zwischen acht und zwölf Jahren zum Verfassen von Texten. Aufgrund der interdisziplinären Entwicklung (Medieninformatik und -didaktik, Fachwissenschaft und -didaktik Deutsch, Schulkooperationen) werden erstmals Learning-Analytics-Verfahren im Bereich der Rechtschreibung angewandt. Dies geschieht mithilfe des eigens entwickelten Informationssystems mit integriertem intelligenten Wörterbuchs, das den Text in Bezug auf allgemeine und kategorisierte Rechtschreibfehler überprüft. Bei den kategorisierten Rechtsschreibfehlern gibt das System dem/der Verfasser/in verbale Rückmeldungen zur Korrektur und stellt dem/der Lehrer/in eine qualitative Fehleranalyse zur Verfügung. Darüber hinaus können die Texte von Lehrpersonen online korrigiert und verwaltet werden. Nachdem die Lehrperson den Text zur Veröffentlichung freigegeben hat, kann der/die Verfasser/in den Text publizieren, so dass ihn andere lesen und ggf. kommentieren können

Together with my colleague I like to call for submissions on the topic „Learning Analytics„. The contributions will appear as Special Issue of the Journal of Research in Innovative Teaching & Learning that is an open access journal published by Emerald Publishing Services.
