Im Rahmen der iUNIG-Tagung “Warum E-Books (nicht) funktionieren” wurde ich und unserer Keynote-Speaker Rudolf Mumenthaler zur derzeitigen Situation rund um E-Books befragt. Das Ergebnis war bereits in Ö1 am 3.12.2012 um 16.55 in der Sendung Digital Leben zu hören bzw. steht jetzt auch als Podcast noch zur Verfügung:
Zu 98 Prozent werden Bücher immer noch in Form von totem Holz verkauft. E-Books machen in Österreich im Schnitt gerade einmal zwei Prozent des Umsatzes aus.
Und doch ist die Hochzeit der klassischen Printform auch hierzulande längst vorbei. Vor allem im Bereich der Wissenschaft und Lehre gewinnen digitale Werke an Stellenwert. Das bringt den Studierenden viele Vorteile, stellt Hochschulen, Bibliotheken und Verlage aber auch vor neue Herausforderungen; organisatorische genauso wie technische und rechtliche. Um offene Fragen zu diskutieren und Erfahrungen auszutauschen, luden die Grazer Universitäten und Hochschulen vergangene Woche zu einer E-Book-Tagung in die steirische Landeshauptstadt. Sylvia Sammer berichtet.

Our publication about “Automated Podcasting System for Universities” at this year ICL 2012 conference is now online available.
Abstract:
This paper presents the results achieved at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in the field of automating the process of recording and publishing university lectures in a very new way. It outlines cornerstones of the development and integration of an automated recording system such as the lecture hall setup, the recording hardware and software architecture as well as the development of a text-based search for the final product by method of indexing video podcasts. Furthermore, the paper takes a look at didactical aspects, evaluations done in this context and future outlook.
